Artist's Comments

I did this for my drawing class, we were studying old "master" works and see how they can apply with our own contemporary work, so we had to choose a piece and make drawing referencing the piece we chose. I picked Antoine Watteau's "Italian Comedians", and made this drawing of me and my roommates. It’s kind of rediculous.

20.5"X 25", Graphite and Watercolor on paper.

This has to be the most absurdly beautiful thing I've seen, which is the best kind.

I love the way you draw.

This is so involving, I could look at it for a very long time.
The personalities are perfect, I can see them

I love the composition of the image. Having three people is very appealing to the eye. The background is a bit light compared to the shadows of the people, but it seems intentional as if to make the subjects stick out from their enviroment. Something about the left (viewer's left) sleeve, at the top of the guy sitting down is a little bit out of porpotion of something. It doesn't really click. His left arm also seems a bit short. I love the fun quirks of this drawing, the give it energy and personality.

Great work again.
I love your interpretation of "Italian Comedians" and I have to agree,
the fact that the piece is large, I can see the instricate little things you've put into this...comparing the similarities with the original piece and the differences...
It's fascinating.
I love how you put alot of details on cloth on every one of your work. Love your details on the jeans.

oh, yes, i can definitely imagine the man in gold as dan!
i agree with the previous comment that you might consider pushing some of the darker values in the background, and perhaps could benefit from the slightest bit more attention to wyatt's jacket, but overall i'd say the drawing is quite successful. for some reason, the shoes are my favorite.
